Have them draw a face on a Styrofoam cup or decorate it in some other way. Add small rocks and then let them put potting soil into the cup. Sprinkle grass seeds onto the soil and cover it with another small amount of soil. Let them water their person and then place it in a sunny window. When the grass grows it looks like the person has green hair.

I have two cute activites for you today that will make waiting for Santa a little easier for the kids. They are both gingerbread houses. One real one and one virtual one.

Let’s start with the real thing. My friends over at Menu Planning Central.com have put together a cute document on how to make a ginger bread house. It includes step by step instructions and photos. Keep in mind that it will take you several days to complete the whole thing, so you may want to start on it within the next day or so. The result is so yummy and cute though, it will be well worth the time and effort you and your kids put into it.

How To Make A Gingerbread House (PDF)

If you don’t feel quite that ambitious, but still want the kids to decorate a gingerbread house, check out this website. The kids will drag and drop candies onto a cute little house to turn it into a complete gingerbread landscape. Here’s a screenshot of one my daughter and I made last night. We had a lot of fun and there was no mess to clean up after

Happy Holidays!

You’ll Need:

* large stick or branch
* paint
* paint brushes
* yarn or twine
* feathers and pinecones (optional)

Directions:

First you’ll need to find a large stick or a small branch. Look for dried out wood (not green) and make sure it is a comfortable size for your child. It should be a little higher than your child’s waist. Remove the bark and any little knots or side branches to make sure it is easy to grip.

Next let your child decorate his or her walking stick with paint. Once the paint dries it is ready for the first walk or hike. Bring some yarn or twine along, so your child can collect feathers and pinecones and attach them to the walking stick for an even more personal touch.

Read the story of the three little pigs craft. Then let your child relive the story with this three little pigs craft.

Stop Feeding Your Kids Junk! – Skip the fast food and frozen TV dinners…Find out how easy it is to cook a home-cooked meal each night by planning it ahead of time. Grab your free Menu Planning Basics report at www.MenuPlanningCentral.com – and watch for the menu pack offer after you sign up.

You’ll Need

* 3 single serving milk-cartons (clean)
* Construction Paper
* Small Twigs
* Spaghetti (uncooked)
* Glue
* Scissors
* Marker

Directions:

Your child will recreate each of the three houses of the little pigs. Start by cutting a door into each of the milk cartons. Glue spaghetti all over the first house to make it look like a straw house. Repeat with the twigs for the second house. Cover the third house in red construction paper and outline small squares with a black marker to make it look like red bricks.

You can cut out three pig shapes and a wolf from construction paper or use little plastic animals to let your child reenact the story.

Alternatively you could draw a simple house shape each on 3 pieces of paper and let your child glue the spaghetti, twigs and construction paper bricks on it.

Put those old socks and those that have lost their mate to good use by turning them into sock puppets.

Put the sock on your hand and tuck in the tip of the sock (where your toes usually go) to form a mouth. Glue a piece of red or pink felt in as a tongue. Glue the wiggly eyes on the sock and add other felt scraps to make ears, tails, hair, even wings. Use yarn or embroidery floss as hair or whiskers.

You can turn your old sock into any type of animal or person, even creatures of your own. Don’t forget to put on a big sock puppet show afterwards.

Grab your free Menu Planning Basics report at www.MenuPlanningCentral.com – and watch for the menu pack offer after you sign up.

You’ll Need

* Paper plates
* Green paint or marker
* Red construction paper
* Glue
* Dried Watermelon seeds (black)

Directions:

1. Cut a paper plate in half.

2. Pain the rim green. This will be the rind of the melon.

3. Cut a half circle the size of the inner part of the paper plate out of the red construction paper and glue it on your paper plate half.

4. Form the foil into a coil or spring shape (by wrapping it around a broom handle).

5. Dab some glue on the watermelon seeds and glue them on the red construction paper.

These make cute classroom and bulletin board decorations.
