I stopped by the store tonight to grab some apple sauce and an inexpensive pack of cinnamon. I found a 99 cent store brand bag of this wonderful smelling spice at my local grocery store and it will be just perfect for this fun project - Apple Cinnamon Ornaments. I made some of them with my daughter 2 years ago (she was not quite three yet at the time, but enjoyed mashing the dough). I just took the little gingerbread man figures we made out of a box yesterday and they still smell wonderful, so I figured it was time to make some more. Part of the reason may be that I also got us a big box of Christmas themed cookie cutters at Michaels last week, that I’m just dying to try out.
Here’s the recipe for the apple cinnamon dough … it makes a slightly sticky dough out of apple sauce, cinnamon and white glue that dries into hardened ornaments that look as beautiful as they smell yummy. They make great ornaments or even gifts for family members. You could also cut them out in smaller shapes, skip the whole and ribbon and just lay them out on a plate or in a small bowl instead of potpourri.
I hope you and your kids enjoy it as much as we have.
